Ford Motor Company has increased the size of its BlueOval electric car charger network by connecting Blink, Red E, and Francis Energy to the BlueOval network. Those three are charging station providers. However, BlueOval is designed to allow customers to use charging stations provided by any of those companies via the same Ford app.
This improves the user experience by eliminating the need to install a separate app for every charging station provider out there. The unified user experience doesn’t only benefit Ford. It benefits the third-party charger providers above as well because Ford’s app will provide them with exposure. Open standards like these stand a strong chance of success, as everyone wins.
Ford also deploys its own charging stations, although it is more focused on the BlueOval network and app. Thanks to the new integrations, there are now 106,000 charging stations in the BlueOval network.
