Google Ends 1st Gen Chromecast Support

Google has ended support for the first generation of the Chromecast devices after 10 years, which is a reasonable time frame for offering updates. This means Chromecasts will no longer receive technical support nor updates. The Chromecast device — launched in 2013 is a thumb-sized device that plugs into your TV’s HDMI port and enables you to stream video from your laptop, phone or tablet to your TV.

This feature was especially useful to older TVs that didn’t have wireless capabilities built in. The original Chromecast was only $35, making it a hit among many customers. There are newer Chromecast devices, such as the 4K model released in 2016, and even a 2020 model.
