Kuo Suggests The iPhone Mini May Be Discontinued

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that the 5.4″ iPhone Mini series may be discontinued in 2022. The powerful but tiny phone has been suffering from low sales volume compared to the other iPhone 12 models.

The iPhone 12 Mini is a $700 phone with a 5.4″ screen. That is a significant deterrent to sales, considering that consumers are opting for phones with larger screens. It would have been different in the past, considering that $800 phones actually were that small just a few years ago. The iPhone SE 2 screen is even smaller than the iPhone 12 Mini — despite having a larger body. It also has a slightly slower processor (A13 in the SE 2 vs the A14 in the 12 Mini).

However, the SE 2 outsold the 12 Mini. This is most likely due to the significantly lower price tag of the SE 2. The SE 2 is $400 ($300 less than the 12 Mini). To further the detriment of the 12 Mini, the iPhone 11 with a 6.1″ screen is available for $600, and it still offers ample performance. The cutting edge technology in the 12 Mini helps it to stay relevant longer, but paying $700 for that is difficult to justify when you could get the standard iPhone 12 for $800. Please read my comparison between the iPhone SE 2 and the iPhone 12 Mini.
