2021 RAM 1500 TRX Offers 702 HP, 650 lb-feet Of Torque

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has announced the new 2021 RAM 1500 TRX — their most powerful pickup truck. FCA claims that it is the fastest and most powerful mass-produced truck in the world, thanks to the supercharged 6.2L Hemi engine. FCA calls it ‘the apex predator of the truck world’, and the name TRX appears to be some form of reference to T-Rex dinosaurs (as implied with a T-Rex scene from Jurassic Park in their reveal video).

Performance

The RAM 1500 TRX is equipped with a 702 HP, V8 6.2L supercharged engine. That’s quite a bit of power for a truck. However, what makes it even more impressive is the 650 foot-pounds of torque it produces. Torque is the force that makes your wheels rotate, which is why more torque translates to stronger acceleration (or a more ‘peppy’ ride).

The 2021 RAM 1500 TRX can accelerate from 0-60 mph in as little as 4.5 seconds (this is difficult for a truck to achieve), and it has a top speed of 118 mph (189 km/h). The large, but attractive hood scoop provides 50% of the engine’s air intake, while the grille provides the rest. The 1500 TRX offers up to 8,100-pound (3,678 kg) trailer towing capacity, and a maximum payload of 1,300 pounds (590 kg).

Technology

Which new truck would be complete without a large touch screen interface on the dashboard? The RAM has a 12″ touch screen infotainment display as the centrepiece. It is also equipped with a transparent HUD display that displays information related to your drive on the windshield. Large dashboard displays have become a very popular trend.

However, the RAM 1500 TRX implemented it in a tasteful manner, and it isn’t oversized. The advanced controls offered on that screen are also a good use of its space. Displaying the truck’s velocity on the HUD is an excellent use of that technology, as the driver can see it without looking down at the dashboard.

Fuel Efficiency

The first thing that comes to mind when you hear ‘V8 6.2L’ is high fuel consumption/fuel economy. Unfortunately, the RAM 1500 TRX MPG ratings haven’t been released as yet. However, they probably will be soon.

Overall, the RAM 1500 TRX has a beautiful design that hits the nail on the head, and it will draw the attention of many.
